What is this 1983? I’m not a fucking accountant
I’m overdue for my annual blog post. I know what you’re thinking, how could I let my fans down? Well today, I want to write about how there aren’t more TKL (tenkeyless) keyboards, and specifically why can’t I find a good TKL keyboard for MacOS, ideally with silent mechanical switches. I really don’t understand what good any other sized keyboard is besides TKL. By “TKL” I mean keyboards that DO include full-sized set of arrow keys, as well as the other function keys like Home, End, Page Up, and Page Down. These are keys I use all the time. TKL only means the keyboard doesn’t have the 4x6 bank of number keys. The layout of a keyboard about 14 inches (36cm) wide, with room for about 18 keys across is the superior geometry. So, what’s wrong with full-sized keyboards, you ask? It’s the extra width! It pushes the mouse pad over and skews the symmetry of my shoulders sitting at the computer. And who really uses the number key pad anyways? Are we all supposed to be accountants or something because we use a computer? I want the balance between ergonomics and functionality. I can live without a number key pad, but I’m more than willing to sacrifice two inches for full-sized arrows, and those other essential function keys.
